Choosing a Chiropractor

What to Look for When Choosing the BEST Chiropractor Near You

Choosing a chiropractor that you can trust is a key part in the process towards your pain relief. In order to make the perfect decision, there are a few things you need to know:

  • Understand the difference between chiropractic methods and which one will work best for you.
  • Ask about your visits: How long will your treatment plan last before you start feeling better again?
  • Research the educational background and experience of potential chiropractors.
  • Inquire about payment plans in the clinic you choose
  • Decide whether communication style is important in your decision.

Understanding the different methods of chiropractic is very important. When researching your potential doctor, you want to be aware of which methods will work best for you. Chiropractors have many different techniques in relieving your pain. Some use instruments, such as an activator or a soft tissue instrument adjustment. They can also adjust spines with their hands, using either high velocity low amplitude manipulations, or low-force mobilization manipulations. It is up to you to decide which method you would feel more comfortable using.

Ask about your visits. Most chiropractors will set you on a treatment plan for about 4-8 weeks. Be sure to ask them how long will it take within these few weeks to start seeing improvement. A very common expectation (depending upon your diagnosis) is that you should feel some relief within the first few visits of treatment. Expect that the chiropractor will advise you to come in 3 times per week for the first few weeks of your treatment plan. Also, some doctor may prescribe you home exercises to help expedite your results.

Research the educational background and experience of your potential chiropractor. Most doctors already have a Bachelor’s Degree before entering chiropractic school, usually in a science background such as human biology. After graduating from Chiropractic college with their Doctorate in Chiropractic some pursue post-graduate certifications in certain fields such as sports medicine, pediatrics, radiology, etc.

Inquire about payment plans. Make sure that the clinic you plan on treating at takes the health insurance that you are currently under. Ask if there are any family discounts available, these are usually available at the prospective clinics. If you do not have health insurance coverage most clinics also offer self payment options and payment plans, where you can make payments throughout the course of your treatments. This is very beneficial to get the much needed care immediately.

Decide whether communication style is important in your decision. Some chiropractors listen and answer questions better than other chiropractors will and this is more important to some patients than it is for others. Ask if the doctor does consultations. This is very effective. That way you get a brief summary of how the chiropractor can help you prior to scheduling an appointment. Some chiropractors will even provide educational material or information packets for you to take home.

I hope you found this information helpful, and just remember it is important to research all of the right topics in order for you to have the best results! Don’t be afraid to ask questions as they are here to help you!
