Chiropractic Care for ACL Injuries

Did you know that the most common ligament problems Chiropractors assess occur within the knee? If an injury occurs, Chiropractors can evaluate your condition and run a series of physical tests to determine if chiropractic can help or if you are better off seeking another specialist. Just like doctors, they prioritize your health and wellness; Chiropractors will not risk creating further complications for patients.

An ACL injury is one of the more common injuries that occur when playing sports. An ACL tear is a tear of one of the knee ligaments, this ligament joins the lower leg bone and the upper leg bone and keeps the knee stable. When someone injures their ACL, it can range from a small tear to a more severe tear in which the ligament has been completely separated or the ligament and part of the bone separate from the rest of the body. With no treatment, an injured ACL can be unstable and therefore the knee and leg will be unable to control movements. When treatment isn’t sought after, the bones are more likely to rub up against each other. When this happens for a period of time it is considered a chronic ACL deficiency.

When there is an unstable knee and abnormal movement it can cause damage to the cartilage that covers the ends of the bones and can trap and or tear the meniscus pads that help cushion the knee joints. When this happens for a period of time it can lead to osteoarthritis. When the knee is injured it can include cartilage, meniscus, ligaments or bones which make it very important to get a knee injury checked out right away. An injury to the knee or ACL can happen if the knee joint is hit by another person or object, bent backward, side to side or if the knee is twisted. An ACL injury can happen when a person is changing direction rapidly like landing from jumping or suddenly stopping or changing direction. It is easier to get an ACL injury as you age so commonly after age 40 they occur. Chiropractic care has shown to be helpful in the treatment of ACL injuries and symptoms.
